Autumn Production

With the Goodwood Revival over for another year, the focus this month has been on production once more.

Out in the factory the never-ending task of producing components for Jaguar XK engines continues. Among many other components, a batch of Lightweight E Type butterfly fuel injection manifolds was completed, one of which can be seen here on our fifth axis trunnion for one of our Haas machines.

Another freshly manufactured product to see completion this month is one of our 2.5-litre Coventry Climax FPF engines. Our engine builders are just finishing this one, using the dyno to set up the ignition and the period-correct Weber 58DCO3 carburettors.

Also this month, yet another refurbished and rebuilt Jaguar D Type engine made it onto our dyno. This one came in for one of our renowned Wide Angle cylinder heads, but once opened we found a number of areas needing improvement. It's now back together and has been set up on the dyno, ready to be refitted to the customer's car. This engine benefits from our recently updated CNC porting process, which now features greater flow-optimisation for stronger power.

A rather tricker restoration that Crosthwaite & Gardiner carried out this month was of this Zenith 48K carburettor. We were commissioned by a regular customer with a very original Type 35 Bugatti to source an original carburettor - with extensive influence and connections within the historic world of Bugattis, we were able to find one which we then restored to fully working condition, carefully re-using as many of the original parts as possible to conserve the originality. A few new parts had to be used where originals were not possible to restore or not available, but we ensured that the new parts blended perfectly with the look and feel of the finished carburettor.

Finally, our new Wheel Catalogue has just been completed. As well as having had a complete overhaul, it now features information about how we make our wide range of wheels. Below is a photograph we captured at our selected magnesium foundry. The new catalogue is available to view here -
